Camp CADY Guzzler Project
Camp Cady Project
August 23 & 24, 2008
This will be a two day project and there
will be plenty to do. If you have plumbing,
electrical, carpentry or heavy
equipment experience this would help out
tremendously. If you plan on coming
out please bring your hand tools along with
drills, sanders, nail gun, screw gun, saws
etc. Below is a list of some projects and
the materials needed. The materials needed
for each project are listed in red. If you
can bring out some of these supplies please
let me know. We need 2x4's, 2x6's,
window caulking, 1/2" sheet rock green
board, lawn mower, trimmers, weedeater,
electrical tools, bags of mortar and
concrete, chainsaw, 3/4" pvc pipe with glue
and fittings, belt sander, 24" prehung
interior door. I know alot of you are
collectors like me and have some of
these supplies laying around the back
40. It would be a good thing to have 25 to
30 volunteers that will brave the heat and
the gas prices and help out
with this important project, Camp Cady needs
this face lift. We really do need help
on this project, If you plan to attend
please contact me or one of the other guys
on the list below. If you want to come
out on Friday give Tom Smith (# below) a
call. We will be working from early
morning till around11am, lunch and break
until 4 pm then try and get in a couple more
hours before dinner.
Camp Cady is a F&G compound located only 34
miles from Barstow and consisting of over
2000 acres with a pre 1910 horse barn,
bunkhouse, cow and hay barn, care takers
house along with several other out
buildings. This facility is used for youth pheasents
hunts, hunter safety courses, dove and
small game hunts along with the sheep
hunters clinic site, plus this area is used
to store most of the equipment needed for
Wildlife for Wildlife, Sheep Society and
Quails Unlimited. This area is a
wildlife boundary area which is habitat for
the protected Mojave Towhee Chub, the Mojave
Ground Squirrel along with hawks, howls and
many other species. This area does
contains a couple species of rattlesnake
including the sidewinder, so watch your step
along with your pets.
Now for the good news......The bunk house
has a working swamp cooler, eight bunks,
showers, restrooms and kitchen, plus there
is four, 20 amp, six 30 amp, and one 50 amp
RV sites with water that are available to
the volunteers for free, plus plenty of tent
areas. Quail Unlimited will furnish
breakfast and lunch (cold cuts) on Sat and
Sunday plus dinner on Saturday night.
It is going to be hot so we will make sure
you all have plenty Gatorade to drink.
I have some goddies for Sat night raffle.
Directions
For
those who have not been to Camp Cady, take
Interstate 15 through Barstow and head east.
Get off the freeway at Harvard Road, and
turn South (right) Follow Harvard Road a
short distance, and when you start down into
a large wash, the milo field will be on your
right, and Camp Cady on your left. Just at
the top of the South side of the wash, you
will see a Camp Cady sign, turn left on the
dirt road and follow it to the Camp. If you
get lost, call 760-257-0900.
